For ages, society has strangled women's voices, conditioning every woman to look only 'within', to care for the family and support the men around her, head bent, hands tied. To break those shackles, all she needs is a small space she can call her own. Her Stories is that safe space: to speak, to listen, to learn, to hold on to one another, and to march ahead, hand in hand, in sisterhood. His-tory has always spoken of him. It is time to change the narrative.

The Her Stories Foundation ஹெர் ஸ்டோரிஸ் அறக்கட்டளை
Her Stories began as a Facebook page during the Covid lockdown in 2020, posting regularly on feminist issues, the everyday challenges women face, and lessons from feminist history. The page reached thousands, and in 2021 we launched herstories.xyz, a platform where like-minded feminists could gather their thoughts where every woman could read them.
Writers joined from across the globe: established voices such as Sharmila Seyyid and Sugitha Sarangaraj, alongside new entrants such as Deepika Deenadayalan and a young anthropologist writing from Canada. Series multiplied, and soon we were publishing women writing from Dubai, Theni, California, Canada, Chennai, Kumbakonam and beyond.
In June 2022 we became publishers, launching seven books at once, with Tamil Nadu's Minister of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment, Ms Geetha Jeevan, as Chief Guest. That year our series #HerStoriesConversations won the Laadli Special Mention Award for Gender Sensitisation (Tamil Social Media). In 2023 we took our first stall at the Chennai Book Fair, and have held launches there every year since.
On the translation front, we brought Annie Ernaux and Rose-Marie Lagrave's Une conversation into Tamil with a grant from the Institut Français de l'Inde; Dupatta Podunga Thozhi received a Tamil Nadu government grant for translation into Bengali, and Uchcha Kattam a grant for Malayalam. To date we have published around 300 books.
To nurture the next generation, we run three writing workshops: Pennezhuthu (feminist writing) led by V. Geetha, Sirar Ezhuthu (children's writing) with Maa Padmavathi, and Pizhaiyindri Ezhuthuvom (writing without errors) with former Vice-Chancellor Dr Ma. Rajendran. We also hold Pengalai Purinthu Kolvathu Eppadi (How to Understand Women) sessions for men. In 2025 we launched Her Stories Pennezhuthu, a Tamil feminist monthly magazine. Our writers have received Laadli Media National and Regional Awards for their work in gender sensitisation.
Her Stories continues as a not-for-profit foundation, driven by social responsibility, working to bring women to the forefront, one story at a time.
ஹெர் ஸ்டோரிஸ் 2020 கோவிட் ஊரடங்கின்போது ஒரு முகநூல் பக்கமாகத் தொடங்கியது; பெண்ணியப் பிரச்னைகள், பெண்கள் தினமும் எதிர்கொள்ளும் சவால்கள், பெண்ணிய வரலாற்றுப் பாடங்கள் குறித்துத் தொடர்ந்து எழுதியது. ஆயிரக்கணக்கானோரை எட்டியதும், 2021-இல் herstories.xyz இணையதளத்தைத் தொடங்கினோம். உலகெங்கிலுமிருந்து எழுத்தாளர்கள் இணைந்தனர். 2022 ஜூன் மாதம் பதிப்பகமாகவும் மாறி, ஒரே நேரத்தில் ஏழு நூல்களை வெளியிட்டோம், சிறப்பு விருந்தினராகத் தமிழ்நாடு சமூக நலன் மற்றும் மகளிர் உரிமைத் துறை அமைச்சர் திருமதி கீதா ஜீவன் கலந்துகொண்டார். #HerStoriesConversations தொடர் லாட்லி சிறப்புக் குறிப்பு விருதைப் பெற்றது. 2023 முதல் ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் சென்னைப் புத்தகக் கண்காட்சியில் பங்கேற்கிறோம். மொழிபெயர்ப்பு, பட்டறைகள், 2025-இல் தொடங்கிய ஹெர் ஸ்டோரிஸ் பெண்ணெழுத்து மாத இதழ் என வளர்ந்து, சுமார் 300 நூல்களை இதுவரை வெளியிட்டுள்ளோம். சமூகப் பொறுப்புணர்வால் இயங்கும் ஒரு தன்னார்வ, இலாப நோக்கற்ற அறக்கட்டளையாக, ஒவ்வொரு கதையாகப் பெண்களை முன்னிலைப்படுத்தி ஹெர் ஸ்டோரிஸ் தொடர்கிறது.

Geeta Ilangovan கீதா இளங்கோவன்
A journalist, writer and documentary filmmaker from Tiruppur whose films take on social and gender questions, among them Little Space (on children and mental health, a SCARF award winner) and Agrinaigal (on transgender people and the right to dignified work). Her Stories has published several of her books, including the essay collection Dupatta Podunga Thozhi, which won a Tamil Nadu government grant for translation into Bengali, along with its sequel Petromax Light-e Thaan Venum and No Aani Please.
